Currently a professor at St Marys University Twickenham and Birmingham City University, I have worked as a practitioner, researcher, activist and educator across the fields of multiple disadvantage, homelessness, youth and community work, while concurrently building a career in higher education, operating at the intersection of practice, theory and policy for over 35 years, .

My scholarship focuses on critical pedagogy, participatory praxis, co-production and transformative education, investigating how communities can become active agents in knowledge creation, learning, research and civic action. Through integrating practice, research and policy, I seek to develop a synthesised praxis that challenges exclusionary structures and contributes to more democratic, inclusive and socially transformative institutions
